This particular section is called "Observations" simply because these are our personal experiences and opinions. There are many other sources on the internet about this breed and it really is up to you to experience them for yourself. Both the sources and the breed!
Papillons are still new for us but the love is strong! It took our Papillon to join our house before we noticed just how weird our Chihuahuas were. Mars is a dog. Silly, crazy, intense, agile, smart ñ still a dog. These guys are Spaniels, when you get right down to it so you have this energy but you also have this incredible love of life and friendliness. Sometimes we wonder if the dogs ever get to a point where it's just too much for themÖ ;-)
As a breed, they are terribly smart ñ I haven't seen a truly stupid Papillon yet. Once they've got a good idea of what they are capable of, they will figure out how to do just about anything. We have seen firsthand with just
one dog why this breed is so know for Agility, Obedience and Service. We'll have to put up pages for funny dog stories, come to think of it. We will however, have to research a theory that Papillons have a genetic predisposition to an obsession with tennis ballsÖ
As little puppies, they are just Piranhas with fluff. The fluff goes away and the silky hair comes in so there is
period of gawkiness while the coat grows in. The really do look a little funny with short hair! The coat is easy to maintain, and silky enough that you won't be able to keep from petting them for long.
As they grow, it's imperative that they are kept socialized because their very nature demands it. They are so outgoing, interesting, and gorgeous that it would be a deprivation to society to keep them to yourself!
