| Not all breeders are the same. We all operate on different levels of experience and philosophy. Because of this, we felt this
page should be devoted to giving you an overview of us and how we work. We are a small kennel, a few dogs and a family with children of various ages. We spend a lot of time with our dogs as they are household pets, friends and family members. We try to keep our dogs socialized and they are most definitely used to children! Our Kennel name is Chilifur. All of our dogs are registered "CHILIFUR
whosit". This is a standard practice for many breeders although some are not as adamant about having the kennel name as some others. In fact, it is considered bad manners or insulting to register your dog without using that breeder's kennel name unless other arrangements were made. On the other hand, it is a plain no-no to use another's kennel name without their permission. The AKC has made it possible for breeders to register their
kennel name so that no one else can use it but it's a very expensive option.
We love our dogs and screen prospective homes. That is the purpose for the Application - it's a Waiting List that is based on preference. You won't be put on a mailing list or anything of that nature. We do not place our dogs without signed contracts - it's for the protection of the dog. We don't "bargain" or haggle on price
, (these are not commodities, they are lives) and most breeders would be put off by that just because it implies that the dogs are a means of income. Ha! The other side to this is: if you cannot afford the pay for a dog, you probably cannot afford to keep a dog. All of our dogs are placed with Contracts that guarantee health against genetic defects for several years. Each contract is
individually written but this is one of the basic elements of each and every contract. Another is a clause that states if for some reason you are unable to keep that dog, he or she comes back to us. Regardless of age or why.
Puppies do not go to new homes until they are fully vaccinated - on or after 12 weeks of age. Most females will be at least 6 months of age as it is not always clear on their quality at an early age. It is sometimes easier to make that determination with males. Stud service is available by a limited number of our dogs to suitable bitches. Suitable is defined by various factors including
health/condition, conformation, and heritage of the bitch. The "fee" varies by stud dog and situation and will always be agreed upon by both parties ahead of time.
Breeding and Show quality dogs are placed with full registration. Pet quality dogs are placed with Limited Registration and
spay/neuter clauses in the contract. Pet quality bitches will be spayed before they go to a new home unless otherwise arranged.
All prices are based on thevalue we place on that individual dog and include a crate, frameable pedigree, limited supply of food,
Chihuahua information, baby photos, and lots of hard work and love. The cost of raising our dogs does not fluctuate based on popularity or demand.
The following is a general guideline for our dogs. The price varies according to quality of the dog, quality of parents, and kennel lines. Our Guidelines below are for dogs up to 5 years of age: - $350 to $500 for Pet quality males
- $450 to $600 for Pet quality females
- $550 - $800 for Show quality males
- $650 - $1000 for Show quality females
- $200 - $500 for Stud Fees - unless other arrangements are made
We will not ship our dogs. There could be some special considerations made in the case of show prospects or special circumstances but those are purely based on a situational basis and should not ever be counted on. If you do not reside on the
West Coast, and are not willing to fly out and spend some time meeting us and the dogs, you should probably look elsewhere. There are good breeders all over the nation, check our Breeders pages, go through the AKC Breeder Referral, or try one of the many
Breeder Referral services on the internet. Rescues fall under the guidelines of CRT
and they ask $100 for an adoption fee. |
